The School

Founded in 1973 by Grandmaster Roy Kurban, American Black Belt Academy has been located at 2209 Michigan Avenue in Arlington, Texas since 1985. It is one of the oldest free-standing martial arts schools in America and continues to teach traditional martial arts- self-defense, forms and fighting.

One of the true greats of American martial arts, Grandmast Kurban began his training in 1965. He has trained with four world champions and was most fortunate to study under Grandmaster Won Chik Park in Seoul, Korea. He was promoted to 8th Degree Black Belt in 2005 and awarded the title of Grandmaster.

After thirty-eight years of successful ownership, Grandmaster Kurban recently sold the school to Mr. Steve Schultz and Mr. Wade Nelson. Following the same tradition as the great man himself, ABBA will continue to turn out the finest martial artists in the world.

The traditions passed down to the black belts from Grandmaster Kurban will continue at American Black Belt Academy. A founding member of the Texas Karate League, American Black Belt Academy of Arlington, Texas will continue to focus on self-defense, top-level tournament competition and the tenets of Taekwondo.

Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Conrol, Indomitable Spirit...
